Egypt's 30 Million Tourist Goal Puts Airlines on Notice to Expand and Manage Seasonal Demand

Egypt is targeting an ambitious goal of attracting 30 million tourists annually by 2028, a significant jump from 14.9 million in 2023. This national strategy places immense pressure on the country's aviation sector, particularly the flag carrier, Egyptair. To meet the anticipated surge, Egyptair plans to nearly double its fleet to around 140 aircraft by its 2028/29 fiscal year. A primary challenge is managing the highly seasonal demand, with winter seeing a massive influx of European tourists. The airline is considering strategies like wet-leasing aircraft during peak seasons and leveraging its low-cost subsidiary, Air Cairo, to achieve this growth.
