ECU Health Joins FAA and NCDOT to Pioneer Electric Aircraft for Medical Logistics
ECU Health has become the first healthcare system to partner with the FAA and the N.C. Department of Transportation on an electric aircraft initiative. The collaboration aims to explore the use of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), including electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft, for critical medical transport. Over the next six months, a feasibility study will identify potential routes for moving lab samples, supplies, and even organs for transplant. This partnership seeks to create a more efficient, environmentally friendly, and faster logistics network for healthcare in Eastern North Carolina. The initiative is part of a broader FAA effort to safely integrate these new aviation technologies into the national airspace.
