Dubai's New Mega-Airport to Feature 400 A380-Compatible Gates
Dubai has announced a $35 billion expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), aiming to create the world's largest aviation hub. The new facility will have a capacity for 260 million passengers and will feature five parallel runways. A key design element is that all 400 planned aircraft gates will be built to accommodate the Airbus A380. This strategy is intended to 'future-proof' the airport, providing maximum flexibility for Emirates and other airlines. By designing for the largest commercial aircraft, the gates can easily handle any smaller widebody jets, avoiding operational constraints.
