DHL, FedEx, and UPS Warn EU Parcel Tax Reform Risks Major Border Disruption
Global express carriers, including DHL, FedEx, and UPS, are raising alarms over a proposed EU customs reform. The plan would eliminate the €150 customs duty exemption for low-value parcels, a change the carriers argue will create massive disruption. They warn that customs authorities are unprepared for the resulting surge in declarations, leading to significant delays. The companies fear this will create border gridlock, increase costs for consumers and small businesses, and disrupt supply chains. As an alternative, the carriers are advocating for a simplified threshold model to manage the process more efficiently.
