Delta Flight to Ghana Diverts to Azores, Stranding Passengers for Over 12 Hours After Fuel Imbalance
A Delta Air Lines flight from New York's JFK Airport to Accra, Ghana, was forced to make an emergency landing due to a fuel imbalance issue. The aircraft, operating as flight DL9923, diverted to Lajes Field on the island of Terceira in the Azores, Portugal. Following the diversion, passengers were reportedly stranded on the remote island for more than 12 hours with limited communication from the airline. A rescue aircraft eventually flew the passengers to a different island before they were ultimately returned to their origin point in New York for rebooking.
