DARPA Transfers Autonomous Black Hawk Flight System to US Army for Operational Testing
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has officially transferred its autonomous flight control system to the U.S. Army. Developed with Sikorsky, the Aircrew Labor In-cockpit Automation System (ALIAS) enables a Black Hawk helicopter to be operated with reduced crew or even fly completely on its own. The system has successfully demonstrated its capabilities in a series of complex flight tests. The U.S. Army will now lead the next phase of development and operational testing. This milestone marks a critical step towards integrating advanced automation and optionally-piloted aircraft into military aviation.
