Clean Aviation Greenlights Flight-Test Campaign for CFM's Open-Fan Engine
The European Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking has officially approved a flight-test campaign for a revolutionary open-fan engine demonstrator. As part of the Technology for Aeronautical Key Enablers (TAKE) project, this is a crucial step toward developing more sustainable aviation technologies. The engine, developed by CFM International, is scheduled for flight trials on an Airbus A380 testbed in the mid-2020s. This next-generation propulsion system is designed to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by around 20% compared to current engines. Successfully validating this open-architecture technology is critical for its potential entry into service in the mid-2030s.
