Clean Aviation Approves Flight Testing for CFM's Rise Open-Fan Engine Demonstrator
The European Union's Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking has officially approved the start of a flight-test demonstration for CFM International's Rise open-fan engine. This key project, named Hydea, will see the next-generation engine tested on a modified Airbus A380 testbed. The program aims to validate the technology's potential for a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to today's most efficient engines. Flight tests are scheduled to commence in the second half of this decade. This approval represents a critical milestone in advancing sustainable propulsion systems for future single-aisle aircraft.
