Civilian Honored as 'Hometown Hero' for Rescuing Pilot from Fiery Pembroke Pines Crash
Anibal Funes, a construction worker, has been officially honored by the Pembroke Pines Police Department for his heroic actions. Funes witnessed a single-engine Socata TMB-700 crash in November and immediately ran to the scene. He successfully pulled the pilot, Dr. Nissim Malul, from the burning wreckage just moments before it was completely engulfed in flames. Funes dragged the seriously injured pilot to safety, an act credited with saving his life. The department recognized his extraordinary bravery with the 'Hometown Hero' award.
