British Airways Owner IAG Submits Formal €500m Offer to Acquire Air Europa
International Airlines Group (IAG), the parent company of British Airways, has formally offered to acquire the remaining 80% of Spanish airline Air Europa for €500 million. IAG, which already owns a 20% stake, aims to transform Madrid into a major European aviation hub to better compete with hubs in Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and Paris. This acquisition would also significantly strengthen IAG's market position on key routes to Latin America. The proposed deal is now subject to approval from European regulators, who have previously expressed concerns about reduced competition on Spanish routes. IAG has stated it is confident the deal will be approved and has offered remedies to address regulatory concerns.
