British Airways Owner IAG Posts £3 Billion Profit, Orders 19 New Aircraft
International Airlines Group (IAG), the parent company of British Airways and Iberia, has reported a massive surge in annual profits. The group's pre-tax earnings for 2023 reached £3 billion, a significant increase driven by strong and sustained travel demand. In response to this growth, IAG has placed a firm order for 19 new aircraft from both Airbus and Boeing. These new planes are slated to join the fleets of its Irish and Spanish carriers, Aer Lingus and Iberia. This fleet expansion underscores the company's recovery, with passenger capacity now at 96% of pre-pandemic levels.
