Boeing Faces Potential Prosecution After Breaching 737 MAX Crash Agreement
The U.S. Department of Justice has notified Boeing that it has breached a 2021 deferred prosecution agreement. This agreement was established following two fatal 737 MAX crashes, shielding the company from criminal charges if it improved its safety culture. According to the government, Boeing failed to implement an effective compliance and ethics program to prevent violations. This breach now opens the possibility of criminal prosecution against the aircraft manufacturer. Boeing has until early June to formally respond to these findings.
