Boeing Delivers First Increased Maximum Takeoff Weight 787 to United Airlines
Boeing has delivered its first 787 Dreamliner with an increased maximum takeoff weight (iMTOW) to its launch customer, United Airlines. The aircraft, a 787-9, is part of a performance improvement package that raises the model's takeoff weight to 572,000 pounds. This enhancement allows the jet to fly approximately 220 nautical miles farther or carry an additional 7,000 pounds of payload. The upgrade involves structural reinforcements and is a key enabler for ultra-long-haul routes planned by carriers like United and Qantas. This delivery marks a significant technical milestone for the long-running 787 program.
