Boeing and CFM Finalizing Safety Fix for LEAP-1B Engine Anti-Ice System

Boeing and engine-maker CFM International are nearing a permanent fix for a safety issue with the LEAP-1B engine's anti-ice system, which powers the 737 MAX. The issue, which prompted an FAA Airworthiness Directive in 2023, involves a risk of the engine inlet overheating and damaging the nacelle structure. This could potentially lead to parts detaching in flight if specific operational procedures are not followed. The solution involves both software and hardware modifications to prevent the system from overheating. Once certified and implemented, the fix will eliminate the need for the current flight crew operational restrictions.
