Boeing 777X: Why European Airlines Are Choosing Flexibility Over Size
Major European carriers like Air France-KLM and IAG are largely avoiding the Boeing 777X, deeming it too large for their network needs. The aircraft's high capacity presents a challenge to consistently fill on many existing transatlantic and Asian routes. Airlines are instead prioritizing fleet flexibility and efficiency, opting for smaller widebodies like the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787. This strategy contrasts with Middle Eastern carriers, whose massive hub-and-spoke models are better suited to the 777X's scale. Lufthansa remains a notable European exception, having ordered the aircraft as a modern replacement for its Boeing 747s.
