ARC-BIO Demonstrates Successful Conversion of Canadian Forestry Waste into Sustainable Aviation Fuel
ARC-BIO, a partnership between Bio-Stream and McGill University, has successfully demonstrated a new pathway to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The project utilized Canadian forestry residues, converting the waste wood into a biocrude oil using a process called Hydrothermal Liquefaction. This biocrude was then upgraded into a 'drop-in' SAF that meets critical specifications for jet fuel. Supported by the Canadian government, this innovation aims to create a domestic supply of SAF from non-food feedstocks. The achievement marks a significant step toward decarbonizing the aviation industry.
