American Airlines Deploys Regional Jets for New South America Services
American Airlines is expanding its international network by launching new flights to South America using regional jets. The carrier's affiliate, Envoy Air, will operate daily services from Miami to Barranquilla and Pereira in Colombia. These routes will be served by the Embraer E175, a 76-seat aircraft not typically used on international flights of this length. This strategic move allows American to profitably serve 'thinner' markets that cannot sustain larger mainline aircraft. The new flights represent a significant network adjustment for the airline's Latin America strategy.
