American Airlines Advances Plans to Resume Venezuela Service
American Airlines has filed a request with the U.S. Department of Transportation for a dormancy waiver to preserve its route authorities to Venezuela. The carrier suspended all flights in March 2019, citing significant safety and security concerns amid political instability. This procedural filing is a necessary step for the airline to retain its rights to operate flights between the two countries. American Airlines emphasized that service will not resume until the U.S. government lifts its current flight ban and the airline deems conditions on the ground to be safe. Prior to the suspension, American was the largest U.S. carrier serving the Venezuelan market.
