Alaska Airlines to Stop Awarding Miles for Basic Economy Tickets This Summer
Alaska Airlines is implementing a significant change to its Mileage Plan loyalty program. Effective for tickets purchased on or after July 19, 2024, passengers flying on the airline's Basic Economy (Saver) fares will no longer earn any redeemable miles. This policy also eliminates the accrual of elite-qualifying miles (EQMs) and elite-qualifying segments (EQSs) for these tickets. The move aligns Alaska's loyalty structure more closely with competitors like United and Delta, which already have similar restrictions on their most basic fares. This change effectively requires budget-conscious travelers to purchase more expensive Main Cabin tickets if they wish to earn rewards and status.
