Alaska Airlines to End Mileage Earning on Basic Economy 'Saver' Fares
Alaska Airlines is implementing a major change to its Mileage Plan loyalty program this summer. Starting with tickets purchased on or after July 19, 2024, passengers flying on the airline's 'Saver' fares will no longer earn redeemable miles. This move aligns Alaska's basic economy offering with that of major competitors like Delta and United, which already restrict mileage earning on their most basic tickets. While redeemable miles will be eliminated, passengers will continue to earn Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) on these fares, allowing them to make progress towards elite status. The change underscores a growing industry trend to devalue the lowest-tier fare classes.
