Alaska Airlines to Eliminate Mileage Earning on Basic Economy Fares
Alaska Airlines is updating its Mileage Plan loyalty program, impacting its most budget-conscious travelers. Starting this summer, passengers flying on the airline's 'Saver' fares, also known as basic economy, will no longer earn any redeemable miles or elite-qualifying miles. The change will apply to all Saver tickets purchased on or after July 19, 2024. This policy shift aligns Alaska with other major US carriers like United and Delta, which already have similar restrictions for their basic economy passengers. While mileage earning will cease, these flights will continue to count towards the number of segments required for elite status qualification.
