Alaska Airlines CEO Unveils Plan to Triple International Routes Through Japan Airlines Partnership
Alaska Airlines plans to nearly triple its number of international destinations from seven to approximately twenty over the next five years, according to CEO Ben Minicucci. This significant expansion hinges on deepening its partnership with Japan Airlines (JAL) and leveraging its membership in the Oneworld alliance. The strategy aims to meet the growing demand for travel to Asia from the U.S. West Coast, where Alaska has a strong market presence. The pending acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines is also a key part of this Pacific expansion plan. Minicucci also noted that customer trust is returning following the January Boeing 737 MAX incident, with the airline implementing its own quality oversight at Boeing facilities.
