Airlines Face Widespread Disruption as Pratt & Whitney Engine Flaw Grounds Hundreds of Airbus Jets

Hundreds of Airbus A320neo family aircraft are facing grounding due to a flaw in their Pratt & Whitney engines. The issue is caused by a "rare condition" in the powdered metal used to manufacture certain high-pressure turbine discs, requiring accelerated inspections. Major carriers like Wizz Air, SAS, and Lufthansa are significantly impacted, anticipating capacity reductions and flight cancellations. Wizz Air expects a 10% cut in its capacity for the second half of the financial year because of the groundings. This global problem will require 600 to 700 engines to be removed for shop visits through 2026, causing prolonged disruption.
