Air New Zealand Selects Beta Technologies for First Commercial Electric Flights by 2026
Air New Zealand has officially chosen Beta Technologies as a key partner in its Mission Next Gen Aircraft program. The airline will trial Beta's all-electric Alia aircraft, initially in its conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) configuration. This move is a significant step towards the airline's goal of launching its first commercial electric flight by 2026. The trials will begin with cargo-only routes to rigorously test the aircraft and infrastructure in New Zealand's unique operational environment. This partnership follows an 18-month evaluation and is crucial for the airline's long-term strategy to decarbonize its regional network and eventually replace its Q300 fleet.
