Air Cargo Rates Soar 30% in April, But Analysts Predict Imminent Easing
Global air cargo spot rates surged by 30% in April compared to March, reaching their highest level since May 2022. This significant increase was primarily driven by strong e-commerce demand from South China and continued disruptions in ocean freight due to the Red Sea crisis. Key trade lanes, such as South China to Europe and the US, saw rates jump by 40% and 37% respectively. Despite the sharp rise, industry analysts expect the trend to be short-lived. They predict that rates will begin to ease as demand normalizes and more belly capacity becomes available with the onset of the summer passenger flight season.
