Air Canada's A321XLR Fleet Poised to Unlock New Long-Haul Routes Beyond 737 MAX Capabilities
Air Canada is preparing to integrate 30 new Airbus A321XLR aircraft into its fleet, with deliveries starting in 2025. This long-range narrowbody jet boasts a range of up to 4,700 nautical miles, significantly outperforming the airline's Boeing 737 MAX 8. The extended range will enable Air Canada to launch new nonstop routes to Europe, Africa, and potentially Asia from its hubs in Montreal and Toronto. These 'long and thin' routes were previously not economically viable with larger widebody jets or were out of reach for existing narrowbodies. The A321XLR will allow the carrier to efficiently serve new destinations and expand its international network.
