AI Demand Pushes Air Cargo Growth to 7% as Spot Rates Soften
Global air cargo demand increased by 7.1% year-on-year in May, marking the fifth consecutive month of growth. This surge is primarily fueled by high demand for AI-related components and the continued expansion of cross-border e-commerce. Despite the robust growth in volume, global air cargo spot rates have declined for the third straight month. The softening prices are attributed to a significant increase in available capacity, particularly from the belly-hold space on returning passenger flights for the summer season.
