African Airlines Lead Global Aviation Growth with Surge in Cargo and Passenger Traffic
According to the latest IATA data for February 2024, African airlines are spearheading global aviation growth. The region's carriers recorded a substantial 20.7% increase in passenger traffic compared to the previous year. Even more impressively, air cargo demand for African airlines surged by 22.0%, the strongest performance among all regions globally. This significant growth was largely driven by the robust performance of the Africa-Asia trade lane. While overall capacity also increased, these figures position Africa as a key driver in the post-pandemic recovery of international air travel and freight.
