AeroVironment has announced its acquisition of Empirical Systems Aerospace (ESAero) for $65.5 million in cash, a strategic move to accelerate its position in the advanced air mobility (AAM) market. ESAero is an aerospace engineering firm specializing in the design, development, and testing of advanced aircraft concepts, particularly in electric and hybrid-electric propulsion. The company has a notable history of collaboration with NASA, including significant work on the all-electric X-57 Maxwell demonstrator. This deal combines AeroVironment's leadership in small unmanned aircraft systems with ESAero's advanced design and prototyping expertise.
