AeroVironment Acquires Empirical Systems Aerospace to Expand Advanced Air Mobility Capabilities
UAS manufacturer AeroVironment has officially acquired Empirical Systems Aerospace (ESAero), a specialist in aerospace engineering and system integration. The deal, valued at up to $65.5 million, is a strategic move to bolster AeroVironment's position in the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) market. ESAero brings significant expertise in electric and hybrid-electric propulsion, which is crucial for developing next-generation aircraft. This acquisition will expand AeroVironment's design and development capabilities beyond small drones. The move enables the company to pursue more complex, larger-scale unmanned and optionally-piloted systems for both commercial and defense sectors.
