A Historical Look at How the Wright Brothers Achieved the World's First Powered Flight
Orville and Wilbur Wright, bicycle mechanics from Ohio, meticulously pioneered the principles of aviation. Using a self-built wind tunnel, they scientifically tested and refined wing designs to achieve lift and control. Facing a lack of suitable engines, they engineered and constructed their own lightweight, four-cylinder motor. On December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, they made history with the first successful powered flight. The Wright Flyer, piloted by Orville, traveled 120 feet in 12 seconds, marking the dawn of the aviation age.
