3M and JetZero Partner to Develop Sustainable Blended-Wing Body Aircraft
Materials science company 3M has announced a strategic partnership with aerospace startup JetZero. The collaboration aims to accelerate the development of a new blended-wing body (BWB) aircraft designed for greater fuel efficiency. 3M will provide advanced materials, including lightweight composites and bonding technologies, crucial for the aircraft's unique structure. This partnership supports the U.S. Air Force's goal of validating the BWB concept. A full-scale demonstrator aircraft is projected to make its first flight by 2027, with the ultimate goal of reducing fuel consumption by 50%.
